The Infected Globe

2026 · Karl V.

Every month since January 1880, a temperature anomaly is recorded for each region of the planet. Here the anomaly is not a colour on a map: it deforms the skin of the globe itself.

How this piece was made

Documented

Data: NASA GISS Surface Temperature Analysis (GISTEMP v4), a 2° × 2° grid, monthly from January 1880 to February 2026: 1,754 months.

Each value is the difference from the 1951–1980 average for that place and month.

Artistic choices

The shift from healthy green to dark necrosis, the cellular texture and the amplitude of the deformation are artistic choices. The geometry follows the data; its appearance is interpreted.
